The Principle of Correspondence

Welcome back to Wednesday’s Whispering Wisdom! Today, we’re diving into the second Hermetic Principle, and I’m excited to share a bit of wisdom that you can reflect on throughout the week.

The Principle of Correspondence is all about the idea that the patterns we see in one realm of life or reality mirror the patterns in another. In other words, ‘As above, so below’ and ‘As below, so above. ‘

Those of you who aren't familiar with the Principle of Correspondence, it is basically how patterns repeat across different levels of reality. In other words, what happens on one level, like in our personal lives, can reflect what happens on a bigger scale in the world. For example, the way that our thoughts shape personal reality is a reflection of how larger beliefs shape our collective reality. In other words, the patterns within us mirror the patterns around us.

It isn't just a modern idea. It's been part of ancient wisdom for centuries. Hermetic teachings have always encouraged people to observe these patterns and use them to understand both themselves and the world around them. You can use the principle to reflect on how small changes in your own mindset or habits can influence bigger outcomes in your life. It's a tool for self-awareness and for navigating life with a bit more insight.

For instance, if someone notices that they keep encountering the same kind of conflict in their relationship, (like feeling not heard or feeling undervalued), the Principle of Correspondence suggests that this outer experience is mirroring some inner belief or emotional patterns.

In hermetic wisdom, you'd explore that correspondence. You might say, “As it is in the outer relationship, so it is within the inner relationship to themselves.” By understanding the Correspondence, you see for yourself that working on self-value or self-expression internally will reflect outwardly in how others treat you.

In other words, by going deeper into Hermetic teaching, you can realize that the same patterns that appear on a grand or external scale also appear on a personal or internal scale and that's the beauty of correspondence. It helps you use these ancient principles to bridge the inner world with the outer experiences.

For example, the patterns we notice in nature often reflect patterns in our own lives. When we understand that the microcosm mirrors the macrocosm, we can start to see connections that give us deeper insight.
